As we head further into spring, the Harden Memorial Town Pool and Jugiong Pools are raring up for another busy five-month stint and 4 month stint respectively.

With the Olympic sized pool set to open between November and March, the opening of the pool for the 2021/22 season is just over a month away.

Hilltops Council contractors have been busy preparing the swimming facility in the off-season, completing upgrades to amenities such as change rooms and general maintenance of ageing facilities in August.

After receiving funding from the NSW Government, the Council is also preparing a review and upgrade of the pool filtration system.

The end-of-life pool disinfectant system has been talked about being replaced for well over 10 years in Council circles and was again delayed recently before a contract was awarded for the upgrade of the amenities.

A spokesperson for Hilltops Council said, “The Harden pool is part of an investigation that is planned for this financial year.”

“To assess the pool filtration and dosing systems, the pools must be operational. This is best done during the summer when the pools are operating.”

Once the Pool opens for the upcoming season, Council will get a better gauge of the equipment and strategy required for the longevity of the pool.

However they should have at least 10 years of this data as it has been a cause of concern for this duration.

Too much chlorine and the eyes of all pool users will be stinging red, and too little provides inadequate cleanliness levels, with the importance of hygiene being especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A position of Pool Manager created under Harden Council no longer exists in the same capacity under Hilltops.

While providing a great source of entertainment and leisure during the warmer months of the year, the pool also provides critical water and swimming education for all ages.

The Pools are a wonderful facility to earn how to swim, as well as learning other lifesaving practices.

In upgrading the pool filtration systems, Council hopes to achieve a safe and welcoming swimming environment for all to enjoy in spring and summer, If not in this decade, let’s hope the next!!!
