In the build up to two national events in Murrumburrah on the 5th of July, local poultry breeder, Dale Ashton, has showcased his excellence in his field after winning first prize at the Wyandotte Club of Australia’s Centenary event in Mudgee. Out of a field of 50 hens, Dale’s was selected as best in its class. “I’m pretty happy to get a first,” said Dale. “She got second at the same show last year.” Over a thousand birds were entered at the show, and a second bird of Dale’s took home a Very Highly Commended Award in the Cockle category. At the Sydney Royal Easter Show this year, he also won the Champion Old English Game category. But it in is judging poultry events that Dale has become renowned. He has judged all over Australia, including at the Geelong Super Show, the Sale Show, at Dubbo, Brisbane and at the Royal Hobart. He has also been a judge at the Sydney Royal Easter Show for the last 15 years, and judged the Grand Champion at this year’s event. In July, it will be Harden-Murrumburrah’s turn to show a national event. The Rosecomb True Bantom Nationals and the Modern Game Nationals will be held on the 5th of July at the Showground in Murrumburrah. “Everyone is welcome to come down and have a look, and there will also be a barbeque operating as well,” said Dale. An All Breeds event will also be held on the 19th of July at the Showground.
