Cowra will be plunged into lock down after it was found that a member of the Cowra Public School community tested positive to COVID-19 over the weekend. The news, revealed at the 11am press conference.

NSW Health announced today the town would be joining the Hilltops LGA and head into lockdown

According to NSW Health Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant after it was found there are a number of exposure sites and as such the Cowra Local Government Area would go into lockdown from 5pm today.

On Sunday Western NSW Health District Chief Executive Scott McLachlan said the Cowra case is in isolation with their household contacts outside of the Cowra township.

“Investigations and contact tracing are ongoing to formally identify all close or casual contacts and venues of concern,” Mr McLachlan said.

“I urge the community to keep a close eye on the venues of concern available on the NSW Health website and if you are contacted by NSW Health or identified as a close or casual contact, to follow the advice you are given.

“We have determined the confirmed case is unlikely to be the source of recent virus fragments detected in sewage samples taken from Cowra.

“This is further proof that COVID-19 is still creeping around our communities, even those which haven’t previously been impacted.”

“Stay-at-home orders will be introduced for the Cowra Local Government Area (LGA) from 5pm today for seven days due to an increased COVID-19 public health risk,” Dr Chant said.

“These stay-at-home orders also apply to anyone who has been in the Cowra LGA since 13 September.”

NSW Health has said everyone in the Cowra LGA must stay at home unless it is for an essential reason, which includes shopping for food, medical care, getting vaccinated, compassionate needs, exercise and work or tertiary education if you can’t work or study at home.
