Nick Heywood guides ‘Another One’ to victory in the Southern District Racing Association Heat at Wagga. The win qualified the Gary Colvin trained gelding for the final, which will be held on Saturday at Randwick.
Local Jockey Nick Heywood rode three-year-old Gelding, Another One, to one of the most exciting finishes in Country Championships heat history.
Trailing at the home turn at the Wagga track on February 20, the Gelding came from close to the back of the pack to claim the win from Albury trained horses Bautista (Donna Scott) and Takissacod (Norm Loy).
This run qualified Another One for a start at Royal Randwick in the Newhaven Park Country Championships Final to be run this Saturday.
The $500,000 race is looking promising for Another One with four wins and a second place from his seven starts, collecting a total of $145,120 in prize money.
Another One will be one of only two three-year-olds in the race and will run alongside mare Tara Jasmine, with the other horse 4 year in age or older.
Trainer Gary Colvin said he couldn’t be happier with how Another One is shaping up for the race.
Gary said it was an easy decision to stick with Heywood as the jockey for the race while other trainers have opted for City based riders.
“He knows the horse very well and he’s like me, we’re out to win it.” Gary said in reference to Heywood.
When asked if Another One’s age may give him a disadvantage against the other competitors Gary said “He has been showing a lot of maturity over the last month or so and has stepped up.”
Another will line up in Race 3 at 12:45pm, over 1400 metres.
