Craig ‘Magic’ Phillis with Ged Davis.

Ged Davis has been awarded a life membership by the Harden Touch Football Club after 10 years of service. The announcement was made after the Grand Final presentations on Wednesday night that Ged would be stepping down from his role as President of the Club. Ged was unaware that he was receiving the life membership which was presented to him by Craig Phillis.

Ged said he was “Very, very humbled and proud” to be recognised and given the life membership. Ged joined Harden Touch Football as a player in 2007. In 2010 he took over the President position from Darren and Liz Prosser who were stepping down from their President and Vice President roles. One of the things Ged has enjoyed most about being a part of the committee is that touch footy is a very inclusive sport and running the competition brings the whole community together.

“Parents can play with their kids, brothers and sisters can play together.” Ged said. Although Ged has stepped down from the President’s position, he will still be involved in the club. “I will still be involved in the club but due to work commitments I can’t give the it (the club) the attention that it needs.” Ged said. Since taking over Ged believes that the sport hasn’t changed too much as the competition was set up to be inclusive. Referring has been strengthened through courses.

“The competition virtually runs itself once you get a good committee behind you.” Ged said. Giving back to the commu nity will be something that Ged will miss about the job. There have been many people that helped Ged along the way and he would like to thank them for their continued support especially committee members both past and present, as well as anyone who has helped out over the years.

“Without a committee the competition wouldn’t run.” Ged would also like to thank “the community for their support both in putting teams in and helping us along the way.” With touch football finished for the year, winter sports will now start. The Harden Hawks and WorHawks will be playing a trial match this Saturday at McLean Oval with the official season to start on May 1. The Harden Red Devils will kick off their season on April 17.
