Residents in the Hilltops area frequently suffer from dirty water they cannot drink, dirty clothes from dirty water in their washing machines and infrastructure in areas which is well past its used by date, resulting in water main breaks on a weekly basis.
This hasn’t stopped Hilltops Council executive staff recommending that Councillors vote that the General manager be delegated the authority to submit an application for ‘drought funding’ which will see up to $400,000 be applied for for footpath/kerb works in i. Nea St, Young ( kerb) ii. Backcreek Rd, Young, ( Footpath link) iii. Whiteman Ave , Young, ( Footpath Link) iv. Dry St, Boorowa, ( Footpath Link) v. Jugiong Rd, Jugiong, ( Footpath – Master Plan) vi. Riverside Dr and Jugiong Rd, (Hotel corner Boardwalk/drain, Master Plan) vii. Riverside Dr, Jugiong ( Footpath link from Master Plan)
The business states that “The grant is non-competitive but does require Council to make formal application setting out the Project Details, Proposed Milestones, Risk Management Approach, Funding Sources and Expected Project Outcomes.”
Justification used in the report states, “The local economy would get a direct injection using local tradesman that may be suffering a lull in on farm generated works due to the drought conditions at present.”
However, it is likely concrete companies will benefit the most from the proposal, not a wide variety of tradesmen.
Each Hilltops Councillor has been asked to respond to the $400,000 amount for concrete styled improvements before 5pm Tuesday February 25.
