The Krnc Group, owners of Supa IGA Harden, have purchased the assets of Foodworks Harden owned by Phil & Mary Hockney.

The Foodworks store has been on the market for some time. Phil Hockney recently approached The Krnc Group in relation to purchasing the assets of Foodworks Harden as no other buyer has been found.

The Krnc Group has purchased the assets being the fixtures, fittings, land and building as well as any remaining stock. Foodworks will close the store on June 30.

All remaining stock will be transferred to Supa IGA Harden. The fixtures and fittings will be removed to be used in a Supermarket in another location.

The Krnc group intends to seek council approval for the land to be used for other purposes, possibly including residential. Considering the shortage of rental accommodation in town this will assist to resolve this issue.

All current staff at Foodworks have been given the opportunity to apply for positions at Supa IGA. Unfortunately positions are not available for all staff. We will consider all applicants for positions as they become available.

Some residents have raised concerns that prices will increase now the town will only have one supermarket. Supa IGA Harden is committed to the town and assures this will not happen. Supa IGA has and will continue to compete with other supermarkets outside of town.

Prior to the opening of Supa IGA a major part of the towns shopping needs left town leaving the local businesses struggling. Most local businesses are now in a better position creating more employment and a stronger town. Supa IGA Harden will remain competitive to ensure the towns grocery needs stay in town.

Supa IGA Harden will take over the “LOCAL LIQUOR” banner from Foodworks. Local Liquor offers competitive liquor pricing and regular specials on the leading brands.

We will as always do our best to cater for any customer requirements that we may not stock. Please ask our staff for any requests.

It is unfortunate that the current situation at Foodworks has occurred. If the business was more viable and a buyer for it was available we would have welcomed this.

The decision that has been taken is the best considering the circumstances. Another empty shop in town is of no benefit. Redevelopment is essential for the town to prosper in the future.
