After not having a game played for 13 years, an AGM for the Junior Red Devils has seen a new board, keen to rebuild the stagnant junior club and it has already gotten on track for a strong comeback next year.
On Wednesday the 25th of October an AGM was held, a new committee was formed and the decision to bring back the junior devils in 2024 with President: Jeremy Martin, Vice President: Charlie Brown, Secretary: Kace Brooks and Treasurer: Alli Betts.
An expression of interest form has been put up by the club online which allows more young footy players the chance to get involved.
New President, Jeremy Martin, told the Times that the Club is already generating some interest and looks to create even more as the new year approaches.
“So far so good. Very strong in the boy’s side, a lot of boys are interested. I am trying to get the word out because there is a new type of non-contact rugby called tri-tag rugby which I think the girls will thoroughly enjoy once they know about it,” he said.
“We haven’t had junior rugby in Harden for so long, a lot of people wouldn’t know about that.
“At the moment, very strong numbers for boys and I’d love to be pushing to get some girls sides.”
Mr Martin wanted to encourage all juniors to sign up and give it a go.
“The thing is, on both girls and boys’ sides, rugby is quite easy to get into group sides. Rugby is quite accessible to play, I wish we had rugby in Harden a lot sooner since its easy to get into. There are a lot of paths you can take in rugby.
“Rugby is the only sport on a Sunday, so if you play a sport on Saturday, rugby is still there on Sunday. That’s a big thing for the kids.
“I’m seeing rugby grow at the moment so it’s a good time for Harden to jump in and make some waves. We’re looking at three confirmed teams at the moment but we are months away from registration day so there is still potential for more.”
If you’d like to fill out an Expression of Interest form, you can find it on the Harden Junior Red Devils Facebook page or by calling Jeremy on 0422 011 175. Alternatively, you can email hardenjuniorrugby@gmail.com
“This is so we can start getting jerseys ready. If there are teams with struggling numbers, we can see if we are able to fill it. It’s for our knowledge to see who’s interested
“I’d love to get it out there. It’s dribbling in but a lot of people don’t know we are back and about. I’m trying to let surrounding towns like Boorowa and Jugiong know.
“Next year we will be having a big development day at Murrumburrah Public and I’m trying to get all the schools involved. That way, the noise keeps going and we can get some rugby union talent. After that will be registration day.”
It will be good to see some little Red Devils running around the paddock in 2024.
