Michelle Fairall, Grace Kemp, Angel Leitner and Harden Show Committee member Linda Jones.

There will be three entrants in the Young Woman of the Show competition at the Harden Community Bank 2023 Show to be held on Saturday 18th of November. The three ladies are Angel Leitner, Grace Kemp and Michelle Fairall.

A luncheon was held at Beggan Hill on Saturday with approximately 45 people in attendance. Each lady was interviewed prior to the lunch in the morning before they spoke in front of the crowd.

They were asked what they could bring to the show, with organiser Linda Jones impressed with the varied answers they gave when asked ‘who inspires you’. She said, “they all made references to their mothers, and their parents’ amongst other responses.

They were also asked why they wanted to be involved with each of them responding that they wanted to give back to the community, highlighting the effect it has had on their growth as young women.

The announcement of the winner will be made after the President’s lunch and may occur at 1:30pm to 2:00pm on the day with the show going into the night. Linda was happy to have three ladies take part in the process and highlighted that it is a good thing for the town. She said, “The changing of the name is a good thing, they are all different girls with different backgrounds with different interests.”

The winner on the day will go on to Narromine in February where they will spend a weekend away on the topic of etiquette where they will be taught some of the finer aspects of the role, before the zone final.

The local show is shaping up as one of the biggest yet. There’s a large amount of attractions and competitions on offer, with thousands of dollars for the quick shear alongside the wood chop, camel rides, pavilion, Blacksmith Demonstrations, Emergency Services Demonstrations, Dog High Jump and the Dachshund Dash. The Fireworks will commence at 8:30pm and are fast becoming well-known across the region.

Make sure you don’t miss what is shaping as a very good show. Put it in your diary and get ready for next Saturday. You might bake a cake, paint a picture, cut some flowers, grab a showbag or spectate at an exhibit or an attraction. This year’s show could see a huge crowd. With the change of date it won’t clash with any football finals and is wide opening up for a big attendance. More to come in next week’s Times.
