Emma James kicked 14 from 17 possible conversions on Saturday.

Last week the Times featured the Harden Hawkettes.

Our local ladies League Tag side, who through their hard work and determination to both attack but as equally important, defend their own line have delivered a 96 to nil thrashing of the Burrangong Bears side.

The Hawkettes truly are a great team of young women and deserve to be commended on their success.

Unfortunately for the Burrangong Bears on Saturday, they ran into a very slick Hawkettes outfit who piled on 17 tries and 14 goals, leaving the Bears just one more try away from a triple figure loss.

What makes this scoreline even more impressive is that the halves only last 25 minutes each, a total of 50 minutes.

Try scorers for the day included: Abbie Grant, Bridie Minehan, Maddy Douglass, Cailin Abbott, Emma James 2, Georgia Smith 3, while Clare Smith picked up 4 alongside Marylou Minehan, who also put in a quadruple effort.

Emma James had a good day with the boot and finished with the magnificent figures of 14 from 17 conversions.

Emma said, “The girls played well and all of the younger players got a good run. I just did what I usually do, I was pretty happy with that but I said to Polly it’s not good enough I would have liked to get them all.”

Harden now sit atop of the ladder with 10 points with the Coota Bullettes in second place also on 10 points.

The difference being the for and against. Harden has 300 points for and have only conceded a converted try this season to total 6 points against.

It is likely some kind of mid season record and one the Times will be endeavouring to investigate.

Hawkettes Coach Jason Pollard said, “It was a lot of tries and goals. Emma kicked 14 goals. It’s only 25 minutes each way and we actually bombed a couple of tries over the line so we probably could have got a couple more and to a hundred.”

In other matches, Crrokwell proved too strong for the Jersey Girls 32-4, Gunning accounted for the UC Stars 14-8, North Canberra Bears defeated Bungendore in a close one 14-10 and the Bullettes left Boorowa scoreless 26-0.

Hawks

The Harden Hawks have risen up the ladder after defeating the Burrangong Bears 58-8 at Cranfield Oval in Young.

Harden slipped to 7th place after loosing to the Boomanulla Raiders the two weeks prior in a 23-12 loss at home.

They followed this up by a 22-12 win against Crookwell at home in a stop start affair, which saw the game held up due to injury.

The Hawks had a number of players out for the Burrangong clash, however, talk in the shed before the match was about going out and doing a job and getting a good scoreline.

If this was done it would send the Hawks up the ladder on for an against, with a number of teams on the same points for wins and losses.

The half time score saw Burrangong score all their 8 points in the first half while Harden scored 26, before going on with the game in the second half.

Coach Luke Brown said, “The boys all dug deep and we came a way with a win and no injuries. That is always a bonus. We were reasonably good in completing our sets, everyone played pretty well. We were a bit understrength but we came away with a win.”

12 tries were scored by the maroon and whites with 3 to Paddy Smith, 2 to Michael West and 2 to Riley Manwaring, while Captain Coach Luke Brown chipped in with a try alongside, Zach Allen, Jarrod Sharman. Paddy Smith has been given a difficult role with the kicking duties, however, managed 5 conversions.

The Hawks will now have the long weekend off which should allow time for some injuries to heal. They will take on the UC Stars in Canberra on June 19.

The Stars are are in 8th pale while Harden has moved up the ladder to hold 5th place down.
