There have been no positive results for COVID-19 among patients who have been tested in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD).

MLHD is well prepared to care for people who may be diagnosed with COVID-19.

70 specialist nurses and nurse educators from across the District together with staff from partner organisations have undertaken training to refresh their skills in infection control and public health measures.

The nurses will be out and about in our hospitals providing support to front-line staff to maximise the safety of healthcare workers and the community.

In order to slow the spread of the virus, members of the community play an important role.

People are asked to ensure they clean their hands thoroughly and regularly, avoid close contact with others.

Members of the public are urged to avoid visiting loved ones in aged care facilities and hospitals if they have any symptoms of cold or flu.

NSW Health is recommending people with acute, cold, flu-like symptoms who are returned travellers, or have been in contact with a confirmed case, be tested for COVID-19.

Samples for testing can be taken directly by GPs, or at Wagga Wagga and Griffith Base Hospital screening clinics. People who are concerned are advised to:

  • call HealthDirect 1800 022 222, where a nurse will triage them over the phone and advise as needed or
  • contact your GP to arrange an appointment and let them know in advance if you have symptoms (Symptoms might include fever, sore throat, cough or shortness of breath)

TIPS to reduce potential for transmission of the virus:

•               avoiding crowds and mass gatherings

•               avoiding small gatherings in enclosed spaces

•               keep a distance of 1.5 metres between themselves and other people

•               avoiding shaking hands, hugging, or kissing other people

•               avoiding visiting vulnerable people, such as those in aged care facilities or hospitals.
