30 walkers participated in the Harden District Education Foundations ‘Walk for Wonders’ walk on Sunday at Jugiong. The walkers were greeted with warm and overcast weather for the day and were happy that the rain held off. They set off at 810 with the walk taking them through the countryside showcasing the rolling hills and the canola and wheat crops in the area. Walkers were treated to 2 designated stops along the way at the 6.8km and 14 km marks. Gino’s Fruit and Veg and the Harden Pharmacy providing refreshments for the eager group.
Committee member Letitia Beal said “ It was great to see some of the students the HDEF has helped in the past attend on the day. We had former recipients either take part in the walk or help cook the barbeque.” A group of ladies called The weekend Warriors joined the group and coordinated their pink out fits for the day. Adam Walsh backed up from the Gundalong Rugby tournament the previous day and was joined by brother in law Graham Martin-Dye. The duo managed to both pick up some nasty blisters over the course of the day with Adam stretching his sore legs out. Over $2500 was raised from the walk, with Di Peisley contributing over $1100 herself through fundraising efforts.
Letitia said “ It was an enjoyable day and we would also like to thank Coopers Butcher and Jackson’s Bakery and Cafe for supplying the bread and sausages, It is hoped it will turn in to an annual event.” The HDEF will be holding their AGM on October 27 at the MHS library at 6pm. Raffle tickets are still available at the Harden Pharmacy or each of the schools for the $3000 prize of a box trailer and outdoor equipment which will be drawn in December.
