The recent spate of frosty mornings may have come as a shock, but the new Facility Manager at St Lawrence Apartments, Shelley Winters, is enjoying her time in the town nonetheless. Originally from Queensland, Shelley has come to the town via Alice Springs, where she managed a community aged care facility. A month in, and she is already enjoying the experience. “I love it! The residents are lovely, the staff are great, and there is a big volunteer presence here,” said Shelley. “There are always activities here, and the residents are so engaged.” “I’ve only been here a month, and I am already quite proud of the place!” she added. The impressive facility has 45 beds and 43 residents, as well as a secure dementia wing. The residents enjoy a rich social life, with the western wing of the building giving residents and staff beautiful views over Murrumburrah and Demondrille Hill. Residents are able to attend Mass at the on-site Chapel, have their hair cut in a purpose-built salon, and they even have a café. They are also able to tend to their gardens, bring in their own furniture for their rooms and engage in a variety of other activities. The Apartments even have three resident chooks. Shelley took on the position in Harden to be close to her family, who are in Sydney. “I have no plans on moving on,” said Shelley.
