Rain couldn’t keep the 18 riders away from the Harden Pony Club rally on Sunday and had a great day with 3 groups and 3 instructors. Rhonda Daly, Kara Highfield and Norm Bourlet all very kindly donated their instruction and expertise for the day. The riders are divided into 3 groups, advanced, off the lead, and beginners.

Rhonda taught the children rein control and leg control, with group and individual instruction.

Norm Bourlet (pictured with Meg Percival, on horse) gave the children a whole day of working with your horse using legs. His calm and patient manner is a credit to him and the children absolutely loved their time with him. Mini barrel races, pony control around cones and riding on a long rein, bought a different angle to the children’s ability.

Kara Highfield took the beginners groups and had new riders doing ’round the world’ and developing independent riding.

Tilly Bowman was the rider of the day, suggesting to her Dad, that he could stop leading her. She ended the day riding on her own. A great achievement.

The excitement didn’t end with riding instruction. Danny, from Hilltop Equine Services gave the children a informative talk on horse care. Showing real bones, teeth and a horse head was a highlight. Danny explained about worming, cuts and bot flies and all things that the children can look out for on their own ponies.

Terry Howe also very generously came and gave the children a bird’s eye view of looking after your ponies feet, bringing in a variety of things for the children to see, touch and get to know.

Thank you to all instructors, Danny and Terry, for their wealth of knowledge and sharing their time with Harden Pony Club.
