Murrumburrah High School students, Jordan (left) and Maddie (right) Douglass, competed at Homebush in the NSW All Schools Competition on Saturday and Sunday October 11 and 12.

Jordan, who is 17, competed in four events in the Under 19 age group in the Triple Jump, Long Jump, High Jump and the 100 metres.

Jordan placed 2nd in Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump and 3rd in the 100 metres event in which she posted a time of 13.08 seconds. She came very close to her personal best in the High Jump and it took a new state record by the eventual winner of 181 centimetres to claim first place in front of Jordan.

Maddie who is 15, competed in the Triple Jump, where she placed 7th, the High Jump, where she placed 9th and the 100 metres, where she was placed 28th.

Both girls said it was a great experience and they had a great time.

Maddie will continue with Little Athletics in Young which has just recommenced this week. Jordan is currently busy with her High School Certificate exams this week and a possible career in Physical Education Teaching may be ahead of her. She said she has been pleased with the her exams so far.

Father Roger said “It’s a sensational effort for two country girls to come away with such strong performances. Maddie finished with with two top 10 places and Jordan finished with 3 silvers and 1 bronze medal.”

“We are very proud of the girls. They will most likely both register for senior athletics to allow them to compete against a wider range of athletes.”
