The Nationals Member for Burrinjuck, Katrina Hodgkinson, is encouraging not-for-profit community groups and local councils to apply for funding through the 2014 Community Building Partnership (CBP) program which is now open.

“The Community Building Partnerships program helps to build, refurbish or enhance community infrastructure and makes an important impact on the day to day lives of our local communities,” Katrina said. “Over the last three years 92 community groups and councils in the Burrinjuck electorate have received almost $1.6m in funding from this program to improve community infrastructure.

“This includes a wide range of Burrinjuck groups in Young, Cowra, Weddin, Harden, Illabo, Gundagai, Cootamundra, Wyangala, Grenfell, Bethungra, Wattamondara, Milvale, Koorawatha and Gooloogong.

“Earlier this year I was very pleased to open the new Passive Recreation Room at the Cowra Men’s Shed and unveil the statue of Henry Lawson at Grenfell, both projects made possible with grants from the Community Building Partnerships program.

“This year a total of $200,000 has been allocated for projects within the Burrinjuck electorate.

“I encourage community organisations and councils to apply for this funding to help build and improve local facilities.”

Katrina said, under this year’s eligibility criteria, not-for-profit organisations are not required to provide matching funding, but added consideration will be given to groups providing a cash or ‘in-kind’ contribution. Local councils are required to provide matching funding.

“CBP projects also create jobs for local tradespeople within the Burrinjuck electorate as well as promoting community involvement,” Katrina said.

“Applications for CBP funding will close at 5p.m. on 18 July and I anticipate successful projects will be announced by the Premier in December.

“Applications can only be made online at www.communitybuildingpartnerships.nsw.gov.au. My electorate office can provide advice and assistance about the application process and be contacted by phone: (02) 6226 3311, fax: (02) 6226 3345, freecall: 1800 00 2580 or email: burrinjuck@parliament.nsw.gov.au.

“This is an excellent opportunity to improve community infrastructure and make a real difference in your local area,” Katrina said.
