The South West Slopes Times, which encompasses the newspapers of the Twin Town Times, the Junee Independent, the Yass Valley Times, the Cootamundra Times, the Gundagai Times, the Young News and the Boorowa Times, invites local students from Year 7 to 12 to take part in a Creative Writing Competition with a chance to win a cash prize of $50 and see their name in print.
Often, we celebrate the loud achievers who set new records or win awards. Now, we are looking to support and celebrate our heroes behind the pen. Those who can write pieces that are emotional, uplifting and challenging.
For each of our seven papers, we will be holding a Creative Writing Competition with a cash prize of $50 on offer, as well as supplementary prizes for the runners up. Winners will have the opportunity to see their story printed – the perfect start to any young writer’s journey.
But what are we looking for?
Our theme is “Dusty Boots and Faded Hats”, and we are looking for your best poetry or prose on the subject. The sky is truly the limit.
Word limit will be capped at a maximum of 1500 words, so remember to keep your thoughts concise and show, don’t tell.
Entries close 31st of August and can be emailed to editor@southwestslopestimes.com.au with your full name, age, school and what masthead you are submitting your application to.
