Daughter Jocelyn and her husband James Daly now manage day-to-day operations, maintaining the same standards of horsemanship and commercial pragmatism that defined the North era. The original Bowness land continues under different ownership as a cattle enterprise, while the modern stud thrives at Watershed and the nearby stallion station.
D’Argento has rewarded the family’s faith handsomely. A dual Group 1 performer who won the Rosehill Guineas and placed in the Epsom, Winx Stakes and Doncaster, he has translated that class into the breeding barn. His runners have scored in Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the Philippines. Standout performers include the dual Listed winner Ladies Pro, who completed the Belmont Oaks and Belmont Classic double, the high-class Statuario, Placid Pearl, Sequista and others.
The 57.6 per cent winners-to-runners strike rate places him among the leaders of his intake and ahead of many far more expensive stallions. His stock are tough, versatile and progressive, traits that mirror both his own racing career and the So You Think influence.
Bowness Stud’s location between the Hunter Valley and Victorian breeding centres allows convenient walk-on services to major farms while offering the advantages of cleaner country and larger paddocks. The generously sized spelling paddocks, often 25 acres, promote bone density, muscle development and mental well-being. The farm’s yearling preparation and consignment record further underlines its commercial strength.
