The former Shire Council areas of Cabonne, Gundagai, Tumbarumba, Oberon and Harden will be staging simultaneous protests this Saturday, June 18, at 10am. The rally is designed to send a message to both the State Government and the Federal Government in the lead up to the federal election on July 2. A prop to be used in the rally will be a fridge or a freezer to symbolise the federal election ballot box. Local Media has been invited to attend in the form of Prime and Win news, however, video footage will be sent to both networks for footage from all of the rallies to be pieced together for a national and regional story. The rally will commence at the Harden Shire Council Chambers at 10am before moving along Neill Street. The main themes for the protest include ‘To protect our democracy.’ ‘Giving a voice to your vote.’ ‘Keeping local – LOCAL.’ ‘Stop the killing of jobs and growth in regional NSW.’ ‘Communities showing support for each other’ ‘We demand Local Government Elections in September this year for ALL area’s (Don’t let them carry on with Administrators leading our future)’ Organisers are encouraging residents to make placards based on these themes. The rally will only go for approximately half an hour and is the first of its kind to be held in Harden in recent memory. For more information head to Facebook to the ‘Cootamundra Harden Merger Support’ page or turn up at 10am this Saturday.
