A giant Cod caught at Burrinjuck at the end of July.

Murray Cod: Are becoming a little more active with plenty of stories of the one that got away. We have had another 4 fish over the metre mark, that I know of, the biggest being 1.21 metres caught by Jarryd Sirca off the surface on a Taylor made lure, Jarryd also picked up 2 fish at 65 cm and 1 at 64 cm using a variety of surface and diving lures, all on the cast. Tim Mathieson also sent me a beautiful picture of a 1 metre fish taken in the Bidgee arm on a 2 ounce Scotties Cod Lolly ( I don’t have any of them) Steve at the shop also showed me some pics from the very cold weekend at the start of the month. The guys came in late evening and left around 10 am after landing 5 cod for the night, 2 of them measured over a metre. There are plenty of reports of sightings and surface strikes that aren’t quite hooking up. A reliable source has also informed me of impending environmental releases due to start in the next week from both Burrinjuck & Blowering and they are not insignificant amounts. If you have cray pots in the river downstream I would look to remove them this weekend. This drop in water level at Burrinjuck may well fire up the big fish over the coming weeks. The guys catching the big fish are casting lures in close to the edges and also in the shallower water where the trolling guys just don’t get near. The gear their using is also upgraded to be able to cast heavier lures and to hold on to and land the bigger fish. There are a lot of articles around these days on swimbaits and rods. The recent issue 144 of freshwater fishing featured a great buyer’s guide on swimbait rods, reels and gear.
Yellow Belly: Wayne from the ACT managed a nice 55cm yellow while having a bait fish of the bank during the day this week. The yellow belly will also become more active if we get the large water releases over the coming weeks. The bait fishermen will also have a few more trees to tie up to in the main basin.
Redfin: remain active, also look to the shallower water, bait fishing around the edges or casting vibes and small plastics in close to the edges should land a feed. Park News: The Park remains reasonably quiet over the winter months particularly on the camping side, there are plenty of cabins available during winter so you don’t need to shiver the night away in a tent. Photographers were here last week taking drone footage and 3d pics of all our cabins for the new website which will be up and running towards the end of this year along with a rebranding name change for all our group of parks.
