“I didn’t think I would win.” These were the words that came out of Murrumburrah High School student Toby Haydon’s mouth, after he took out the Champion School Parader at The Sydney Royal Easter Show last Wednesday.
Those who know Toby can understand why he would have said this. Toby goes about his work in a calm, collected and humble manner. The softly spoken Year 12 student possesses an excellent knowledge of the cattle industry, a passion that has developed since he first joined the Farm Club in Year 7.
Toby doesn’t come from a cattle farm; however, he has continued to display a natural talent for the cattle industry since those early day of High School.
He beat 60 competitors from across the State to claim 1st place. On Friday Toby was back in action in the ring and went on to take out Reserve Champion Parader after coming up against the Opens, School and F002 qualifying paraders.
Toby made it clear that he had a lot of people to thank including Bob Stewart, Harvey Jones and Jan Young and said that all 3 of them had helped him during his High School years in teaching him what they know about the industry.
Toby said he was also very grateful to Tony and John Manchester at “Roseville” at Kingsvale and has been working part time there for the last 2 years.
