“Accidents happen” according to One of Harden’s best known golfers who has achieved what many in the sport never do. A Hole in One.
Peter Steinke was playing in a stableford event on Saturday with John Hawkins, Tim Beveridge and Herb Manwaring when he sunk an absolute beauty.
Peter and his fellow players had just finished the par 5 9th hole and were surveying the par 3 10th, when Peter pulled out his 8 iron and struck a beautiful shot which landed his ball over 140 metres away from the tee and within a foot of the hole before rolling in.
Peter said “I struck it well and we thought it went in. Herb went down in his cart to have a look and motioned that it hadn’t gone in. We couldn’t tell from where we were.”
Herb was pulling Peter’s leg and Peter headed down with his putter only to find it had gone in.
“When we got there Herb started to laugh and it was in.”
The rest of the group were pretty happy for Peter who had just become the first person to claim the Bendigo Bank Hole in One competition, which has been running for 4 years. A bank account of $1000 at the bank being the prize.
Peter said he will probably spend some of the money on more golf equipment. It’s not the first time Peter has hit a Hole in One, having previously hit 2 on the 16th hole at Harden over his 54 year career. The Hole in One helped bring in his Handicap from 13 to 12.
He was off 13 before the Hole in One which has now helped to bring his handicap in to 12. Peter finished off with a cool 1,2,3,4,5 for the day across the 5 par 3 holes at the Country Club.
With warm temperatures, mild days and beautiful green grass covering the course, now is an excellent time to get up to the club and have a hit.
