Nick Heywood has guided ‘Hay Now ‘home in the last race at Wagga today, on Town Plate Day.

Heywood held the 4 year old mare until the 400 metre mark before streaking away in the 1400 metre race.

Punters had backed her heavily and she didn’t disappoint.

Trainer Matt Dale said “She was so well placed today she is going to be a handy mare. She is a very big horse and will be better suited on a rain affected track. She likes a bit of room, she is bred to get out a mile plus, I’ very happy with her.

With 8 starts now for 3 wins and 5 seconds she is certainly a horse on the rise.

Nick said” She is very smart this filly, she turns on, turns off, it was a good win. It’s always great to come back for the carnival.”

Heywood will continue through to day 2 of the carnival, with 4 rides on Gold Cup Day on Friday.
