The Harden Hornets B Grade side has claimed the Sweeney Cup after defeating Murrumbateman by 101 runs at O’Connor Park at Yass on Saturday.

Harden batted first and wasted no time in posting a large total for their rivals. Captain Courageous Kelvin Brown posted a wonderful score of 63 not out with 6 fours and 2 sixes. He ruptured his Achilles Heel during his innings yet went on to field at slip for Murrumbatemen’s innings taking two ‘screamers’.

Paul Potts managed 3 before Kai the ‘Kaiser’ ‘Man of Steel’  Steele came to the crease and hit 29 runs to push Harden’s score along. Jeff Brown added 13 and Greg Brown 2. Leo Tamale added 16 runs including 3 fours whilst Will Manwaring posted 14 before departing. The tail wagged enough to leave an impressive score with Josh Wakem 1, Micth Brown 4, Simon Squire-Wilson 8 and Shane Abnett 4. Sundries came to 17 and it left Murrumbatemen with the task off 175 to win.

Harden’s attack came out firing with Jeff Brown and Josh Wakem claiming the crucial scalps of Bray, Jones and Mack. Brown sent the openers back to the pavilion with a duck each and Wakem took care of Mack for just 1 run.

Murrumbatemen were reeling at 3 for 5 and needed a steadying influence. They found it in Johnston and Tillyard who added 40 and 9 respectively. Tillyard went with the score at 4 for 43 and Johnston stayed around until his match finished off a Max Spackman ball with 40 runs to his personal total.

A collapse occurred which saw McLean go for 10 whilst the last 4 wickets went the same way the match started. Brown 0, Forlonge 2, Morton 0, and Barber 1, Leighton was not out.
