Luke Snedden charges on to the ball with brother Simon in support.
The Harden Hawks have secured the services of dynamic duo, Simon and Luke Snedden, for the 2017 season.
The brothers originally from Young, were amongst the Hawks best in 2016 and were a part of the First Grade side which narrowly lost to the North Canberra Bears, in the George Tooke Grand Final held at McLean Oval.
Simon Snedden attracts 3 defenders in last year’s Grand Final at McLean Oval.
Simon spends his time as Superintendent at the Gold Creek Country Club in Canberra. The robust Front Rower scored 5 tries for the Hawks in 2016 whilst showing many younger players how to play Prop in the modern game. Snedden’s barnstorming running style and handy offloads caused plenty of problems for the opposition, whilst his knees and elbows approach to hitting the ground and fast play the balls left the opposition bewildered and behind the eight ball.
Simon’s brother Luke played predominately in the Back Row and spent much of his time at Lock. A fearless defender, his ability to cut down opposition runners around the legs, and early in their runs, helped the Hawks go on the offensive during their defensive sets, and set the tone of the match. In attack Luke crossed the white line to contribute 3 tries for the maroon and whites. He was named in the Group Nine team of the year in 2014 after his debut first-grade season with the Young Cherrypickers.
Club President Jason Pollard is very happy that the brothers have signed on for their second year at Harden “Both Simon and Luke are very good players and they add some class and plenty of experience to our pack. We have a lot of last year’s squad returning this year and it’s a good mix of local blokes and outside talent.”
The club is waiting on the signatures of a number of other players for the 2017 season. They will be holding their official sign on day at the Carrington Hotel this Saturday commencing 3pm. Prospective players in all 3 grades as well as parents, supporters and fans are invited to attend a BBQ and live music from 3pm.
Watch this space, more signing to come. Hawks Hawks Hawks!
