The Young Branch of Tegra owned by the Sargent family have joined forces with the Prostate Cancer Support Group. Geoff Bunn of Tegra said “I approached the Prostate Cancer Young Support Group to see if they were interested in working with us, where we could support them financially to promote Prostate Cancer Awareness (and men’s health in general). The idea was to sign write one of agitators with the Prostate Cancer Foundation logo and a pledge from us to donate $1 to the Young Support Group for every cubic metre of concrete delivered in that agitator truck. Prostate cancer was the obvious choice as the construction industry is very much male orientated and men often don’t get to the doctors as much as they should when it comes to health problems. They often say ‘nothing wrong with me and if I ignore it it’ll go away” Geoff went on to say “We launched the program last Friday with a BBQ and members of the Young Support Group. The team at Tegra will make sure men’s health is visible in the district with the quality signwriting on the truck and their valuable contribution. Prostate Cancer is treatable if detected early. This can be done by a regular PSA blood tests where your GP will refer you to a specialist if further investigation is required when a higher than normal level results. As there is no pain associated with the cancer developing these ongoing blood tests are important with men over 50 and for men over 40 years of age with a family history, as the risk is often higher.
