The Red Hill Tip in Young has recently caught alight and is currently causing smoke to drift across the township due to a northerly breeze.
Response activities are currently underway to douse the fire and smoke as rapidly as possible with six fire response units attending the site being supported by Council water carts for refilling.
“We are obviously trying to get the matter dealt with as rapidly as possible to minimize the impact on the community” said Council General Manager Anthony McMahon.
At this stage Council is not aware of what has started the fire and once the fire is out investigations into the cause will be undertaken.
The community is asked to avoid the Red Hill area, to keep windows closed whilst smoke is lingering and avoid going out doors unless necessary.
