Ben Glover has backed up his 2016 Club Championship by winning the Peter Davis Memorial Golf Day with Graham Williams.

Whilst almost every other Golf Club in the Southwest is struggling to have all or some of their courses playable in the recent wet season, the super resilient Harden Country Club is in perfect condition and playing every day, week and weekend.

Lost golfers can be found from far and wide looking to get on to the fabulous Harden Country Club Course, every weekend. They are welcomed with open arms as they were on both days of last weekend. The annual call to arms at Harden Country Club to assist the Harden-Murrumburrah Branch of Can-Assist was a raging success. Held in honour of former Men’s Golf Committee President and Harden Country Club stalwart, Mr Peter Davis, friends, family, golfers, non golfers and groupies all turned out to raise much needed funds for the families of those caring for cancer patients within our community. 55 starters embraced the lovely spring day that was last Saturday with over 27 teams competing in a 2 man ambrose format which is so popular in our Club. The scratch winners on the day were Ben Glover and Graham Williams who shot 68 off the stick to claim the event by 3 shots from the dynamic duo of Robert Bates and Darrell Cassidy on 71 or par. In the handicap division Wayne Sibley and C Davis recorded a 65 nett to claim the goodies, a mere half a shot in front of Tom Poole and Mark Parker. The Mixed Nett division went to Robert and Karen Head with 68.5 getting 2 shots beyond Simon & Dallas Watts on 70.5 nett.

The Ladies Team winners were June Spencer and Marj Manwaring who had 82. In the novelty events on the day Longest Drive went to event winner Ben Glover, Nearest the Pin on the 5th went to Kevin Hoppe whilst on the 10th it went to J Jamieson. The Bradmans Best Score of the day was proudly awarded to the battlers Emily Davis and Tim Jamieson. All of those connected with the event are very thankful and humble to those who sponsored and provided gifts to make the day happen, along with all of the golfers, cooks, and helpers who contribute to make a day like this a success as well as being fun. The funds will most certainly be going to a worthwhile cause of the local Can-Assist Branch. Thanks everyone !! Cassidy Smashes Field in Sunday Stableford Mens Golf graciously moved to Sunday last weekend to allow the Peter Davis Memorial a premium day to host their annual charity day. The blokes played an individual stableford for the Harden Tyre Service Trophy and we thank Mark and his crew for their sponsorship of golf each year. He may have run second by a whisker last weekend but he absolutely brained them this weekend. Darrell Cassidy has shot a superb round of 42 points to play 6 better than his meagre handicap and record a resounding victory. Darrell was a whole 5 points clear of runner up Herbie Manwaring who shot 37 points. Herbie claimed a ball as did Robert Bates on 36 points. Kevin Hoppe secured nearest the pin on the Bendigo Bank Hole in One 10th hole and took a ball for his troubles.

Consistent Kerr Takes Midweek Out Finally the midweekers got a full week at their 12 hole comp. It seems like its been a long while since the weather gave them such a good run. The ever consistent Ron Kerr has broken through again with a win by playing 4 shots better than his handicap to record 28 stableford points on the par 24 point layout. Ron has thrown these 4 shots out the window and will resume on the reduced handicap of 13. Runner Up this week was my silent tip for Mr Sneaky most weeks in Billy Kildea. Bill shot an impressive 27 points but was unaffected by the handicappers sharpened scythe. Billy is warming up for an end run before Xmas is upon us. Mark my words. Harden Ladies Display Some Flair at South West Whilst this scribe has not got all of the results, I am aware of some good showings by some of the Harden Girls on the modified Cootamundra layout last weekend for the Ladies South West Championships. Ev Shea has apparently blitzed the field with her Day 1 result of 62 nett and almost having the best A Grade scratch score. Also Toni Filmer was heard to be playing at or around the better nett scores in her grade as well. More to follow. This Weekend The Men will be contesting the Fullers Transport October Monthly Medal on Saturday whilst the ladies have scheduled an individual stroke for Sunday. I am told the Sunday 6 hole comp is in full swing and it will not be too long til Summer Teams need to be thought about and Scott Fuller Season will be on us again. Pencil in the 12th November for Presidents Day and presentations also. Enjoy your time on our fabulous golf course, Members and very welcome vistors alike !! Cheers ……….. Alby
