The Community Visitors for the Harden Murrumburrah Nursing Home were nominated for a Team Award at the 10th Annual NSW Volunteer of the Year, Riverina Regional Section, Awards held at Wagga recently. Sponsored by FAC’s, Clubs NSW and Etchcraft, regional winners go on to State and then Federal level. There are over 100,000 volunteers in NSW alone and over 1.2 million Australia wide. The categories include Student Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year, Adult Volunteer of the Year, Senior Volunteer of the Year and Team Volunteers of the Year.

One of the community visitors, Don Jamieson said they were treated to a wonderful day out and were honoured to have been nominated along with the local SES group. Don said that he felt that the local SES work very hard and are available to help residents in time of need and natural disasters. Don said, ” We didn’t win but we were presented with a nice Certificate because of our nomination with 35 other groups. The Wagga Health Committee actually won the Award. Our group is a bit unique in that we don’t just visit the residents at the Nursing home, we also have happy hour, entertainment every 4th Thursday and cards on Sundays. The residents really enjoy these events.”
