The 26th running of the Bruce Ware Australian 2 Man Ambrose Championships occurred at the Harden Country Club Golf Course on September 17 &18. With a capacity crowd again turning up to contest for this prestigious and time honoured event. This event which spawned from an idea of some local Committee Men has now been running 1 year longer than the other popular national golf event, the Holden Scramble. In a rain shortened event, the Saturdday results ended up being the deciding score, so those that went hard early were rewarded. In a close tussle, former Champions of several years, Brent Lange and Darryl O’Keefe of nearby Cootamundra Club, proved victorious with their day 1 score of 60, or -11 off the bat.
This score was 1 shot better than another Cootamundra pairing of Father and son team of Paul and Mitchell Deep who, legend has it were -8 through 9 holes but could only muster a further -2 on their next 9. Well done to our Champions and Runner Ups. This year marked the 4th and final year of recent sponsors North Coast Holiday Parks. The Country Club, the Golf and also the event Committees all wish to express their heartfelt thank you to former locals Ian and Kate Kinleyside and their management team at North Coast Holiday parks who have provided very generous and supportive sponsorship to this, the Club’s flagship event over recent years. Special thanks for a big weekend go out to the Board and its members who cooked, catered, ran errands and generally did what it takes to make an event successful. To the event Committee of Mr and Mrs Elliott and Ron Page who along with their helpers of Karen Glover, Caron Cantrill, the Glover boys, Bob Stevo and others do so well putting this event together.
