Gail and Fleur Flanery. Fleur took out the Canberra Times Fun Run on Sunday September 4.

Former Harden local, Fleur Flanery is celebrating her victory in the recent Canberra Times’ Fun Run, crossing the line as the first female, in thirty-seven minutes and forty-five seconds. Fleur is seasoned runner, having represented Australia at the World Mountain Running Championships twice. Her training regime, which involves running twice daily, sees her complete around150km a week, averaging 20km everyday, except for Sunday when she runs 30km. As a teenager, Fleur said she would take advantage of a 400m running track her father, Ross had built for her and her siblings on the family farm. She says she was always the slowest and least disciplined runner in the family, but a healthy upbringing and competitive spirit would allow her to develop a love for the sport later in life. Fleur says that she has no plans for any further competition in the immediate future. Her father, Ross, said the family was incredibly proud of Fleur’s achievements.
