The Govenor General of Australia His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Her Excellency, Lady Cosgrove will be attending a civic reception to be held at the Young Town Hall, on Wednesday October 5. The dinner will be attended by up to 100 people. The Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack MP, the Member for Hume, Angus Taylor MP, the Member for Cootamundra, Katrina Hodgkinson MP, and the Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward MP. have all been invited to attend.

Cosgrove will be in Young the same day as the 2016 Variety Bash. It will mark the second time the Govenor has attended the area in the last 12 months. He came out to Wallendbeen on Sunday September 13, 2015 as part of the re-enactments surrounding the famed Kangaroo March of 1915. Prior to leaving Wallendbeen in 1915 the marchers were inspected by the then Governor-General Sir Ronald Crawford Munro Ferguson – a former Grenadier guards officer.

The Governor General’s spokesman Sam Groves said “Whilst in Young he will visit the PCYC, the Men’s Shed, the Community Hub and a meet and greet in the street.”

Earlier this month residents of Ku-ring-gai and Bombala sent more than 260 letters to the Queen, in a plea from local communities regarding forced amalgamations. As the Queen’s representative in Australia, Cosgrove would be well aware of the Hilltops forced merger.
