A capacity crowd filled the Mechanics Institute recently for the Fashion Parade and High Tea organised by Lorraine Brown with Gowns by Margaret Thornton and Pam Holding. It came about because Pam had donated 8 of her Golden Gowns to the museum. Margaret was then asked if she would show some of her beautiful period gowns. Margaret was responsible for providing gowns for a recent movie and these along with other privately owned gowns, some wedding gowns, were also shown. The ladies from the Historical Society and others provided a very tasty high tea, served by waitresses all decked out in period costume. Features included Alice Lemon’s wedding gown, Lorraine Martin’s gown which was made by her mother, Phylis Summerfield and one of Pam’s wedding gowns. Lorraine said she wished to thank all the helpers who worked very hard to make the afternoon such a success. Over $3,000 will now boost the funding for the extension to the museum so it will hold Brian Dunn’s Light Horse collection. I think the town is already looking forward to the next parade!
