Former Harden man Nick Heywood claimed his first metropolitan winner on Wednesday at Warwick Farm.
Heywood rode Burradoo to the line in the last race after picking up a second place on Zaunkonig earlier in the day in race 5. By the time the last race ran the track was rated a heavy 10 and rain fell as the jockeys jumped from the barriers.
Burradoo jumped in third place and came down the outside taking the lead at the 200m mark before eventually winning by 5 lengths. The $4.20 mount looked exceptional over the final stages.
Nick’s 3 kilo claim may have assisted in the wet for the Mick Miladinovic trained 5 year old gelding.
Heywood will be riding 4 horses at Canberra on Saturday for Dave Heywood, Jason Coyle and Kerri Kulic.
