Ben Glover has staged a determined fightback to reclaim his mantle as Harden Country Club Golf Champion, in rounds 3 and 4 this last weekend.

Entering round 3, Ben was 9 shots back from Club House Leader Kevin Hoppe after a couple of rounds that Ben felt were best left behind him averaging double his small handicap of 4 relative to Kevin’s couple of rounds at 1 or 2 better than his handicap of 6.

Rounds 3 and 4 were played in a seeded draw format and this allows players to measure themselves relative to their opponents in almost a matchplay scenario.  After round 3 Ben and Kevin were tied for the lead as the 9 shots got swept away in 1 round.  Todd Elliot was also within range only being 2 shots behind entering the 4th and final round on Sunday.  Third round is moving day and Ben did this to be in the box seat.  What he then did on Sunday sealed the deal, firing an electric 2 over par round that his closest competitors, despite playing some good golf, just could not match.  In recent years, this is Ben’s 6th title on the trot to be a worthy Club Champion with consistency across these times.

Ben said “I got up by four shots I was very happy to get up in the last 2 rounds after a shaky start.”

Ben has had 5 months of since February after his annual trip to Mittagong. He follows the kids around with junior football instead during the winter months. “I was terrible off the tee, it was my short game which saved me in the end which is normally the other way around.” He said.

The foursomes Championships is next where he will be playing with Chris Hocking. He will be teaming up with John Hawkins in the Australian Two Man Ambrose event. He said once the ambrose is done he will have a couple of months break.

Ben puts his winning ways down to not over thinking the game and coming with a clear head.

Congratulations Ben.
