The Harden Country Motel extensions were opened in glorious sunshine last Saturday by the former mayor of Harden Shire John Horton. Hilton and Alison Doberer opened the doors for the residents of Harden to take a tour of the extension and be a part of the opening of the “Harden Hilton” as John put it. John also spoke about his early days of coming to Harden and how it was quite often difficult to secure a booking at the motel because it would be booked out. The writing was on the wall for a larger motel then.

Around 50 people were gathered for the occasion which marked many months of construction under the guidance of Nathan Schofield. John said, “I congratulate Hilton and Alison on having the vision and carrying it through to its completion. Hilton and Alison have only ever wanted the best for the twin towns and the region. This facility will bring more travellers to town.” He made particular mention of the rooms set aside for people with disabilities and how valuable they will be in the future. Hilton said that it had been a big job to pull off but definitely worth it.

He said he would recommend any of the tradesmen who worked on the project as they had done a wonderful job. Alison thanked Cindy James who has worked along side her since they took over the motel. She also made mention of the patience of the neighbours who have never complained about the noise of the construction workers. Guests enjoyed a lovely lunch which was provided by Alison. She said that she and Hilton were pleased with the response for the opening of the motel.

Harden’s Very Own HiltonThe original motel was built and opened in 1965 with an addition in 1967. A private syndicate financed the project. The Harden Country Motel has come a long way since then. The Twin Town times would like to congratulate Hilton and Alison on a first class establishment that will serve to benefit the twin towns well into the future.
