The Polimeni family have turned tragedy in to life for 6 people, after they allowed Lui to live on through the organ donation scheme. Lui will now help keep 6 people alive and give them a better chance at survival.
Jenny wrote on Facebook “After Lui was pronounced sent to heaven we could not turn off his life support. Instead we gave 6 people this morning the gift of Lui’s life. Those families are crying tears of joy and it gives us a tiny bit of comfort that Lui lives on. We are sure as we knew Lui so well that this is what he would have wanted. He loved people and from all your messages, people loved him. #livelikelui#playlikelui”
Jarrod Crane from the Gundagai Tigers has summed up his feelings on the 15 year old who was a friend to many and an excellent example to his peers.
“About 6 months ago a young boy with a beautiful mullet walked into pre-season training and introduced himself to me as ‘Lui’ and shook my hand and thanked me for training after. My first reaction was, what a polite, well mannered 15 year old boy. This reaction continued after Lui would continually thank me after every session. In the weeks and months that followed Lui proved to be an outstanding footballer, leading the way at training, making thousands of tackles, taking tonnes of hit ups and putting his teammates before himself. He was the type of person that every coach wants to be involved with. But this meant little, it was the Lui outside of football that made the biggest impact on myself and those closest to him. Lui always turned up with a smile on his face, he was one of the toughest people but also the kindest and most caring person who gave 100% in everything he did, he was loving towards his mates and would do absolutely anything for anyone. He was an inspiration on and off the field and will continue to inspire me everyday for the rest of my life. It absolutely breaks my heart to have to say goodbye to such an incredible person.
