Cootamundra Saleyards & Associated Agents yarded 10589  sheep and Lambs at its fortnightly sale this week. This was an increase of nearly 3000 from the previous sale.

 

The sale was made up of

5178 Lambs, 2862 Ewes, 423 Hoggets, 1665 Wethers, 307 Old Sheep

154 Rams.

Numbers increased significantly this sale with both lamb & Mutton up on the previous sale. Lamb quality was once again very mixed with some very good lines of well finished lambs presented

As per usual there was a good numbers of buyers on the rail and bidding was spirited, especially on the lead pens  with most lambs up to $10 .00 to $15.00 dearer than the previous sale, which is better than other regional sales

Medium to Heavy Trade lambs sold between $120 to $ 169.60 . Lighter trade lambs made between $100 to $125.00 to be up $12.00

Lighter and unfinished lambs sold to the re stocker at prices between $65.00 to $95.00 to be $3 to $5 up on last sale.

Most agents lead pens made over $150.00

Top price of the sale went to regular ‘market topper” Noel Corby of Stockinbingal with an outstanding pen of XB lambs that made $169.60. After very spirited bidding, they were knocked down to  Southern Meats Goulburn. With an estimated CW of 29KG and a $10.00 skin , these lambs came back at $5.50 / KG CW.  

 Heavy Trade lambs made between  $133 to $154.00. Medium Trades made between $108 to $138.00 up $12.00

Most trade lambs ranged from $5.40 to $ 5.70  / KG CW to be 40 cents better than last sale.

A mixed run of mutton  was on offer with prices up on the previous sale . Light to Medium  mutton was  $5 to $8 dearer. Heavy mutton was eagerly sought after and was  up to $ 3 better  than the previous sale.

Heavy merino mutton  with big jackets sold to a top of  $119.20 with, while Medium framed  Merino ewes sold between $ 73 & $ 108.00 to the processor.  Lighter ewes selling from $ 30 to $60.00 .

Heavy XB ewes with big skins made up to $115.00, up $9.00. Most mutton in the $3.60 to $ 3.90 / KG CW.

An increase number of hogget met strong demand and  sold to a top of $137.00 to average $95.00 to be $20.00 dearer

Rams sold to $ 90.00 to average $67.00 up $13.00
