Members of the Jugiong and Harden Polocrosse Clubs converged on Albury from April 18 to 24 for the Australian Polocrosse National Championships, assisting in six of New South Wales’ victories in eight categories at the Albury-Wodonga Equestrian Centre. Will Weston led the NSW Senior Men to a 26 points to 23 win over Queensland, with his aunty Donna Weston managing the side. Will’s efforts were rewarded by being named the Champion Senior Male player and the Champion Male player for the tournament. He also coached the Intermediate Women to a 25-19 defeat of Queensland, with the side including Laura Beer of Jugiong Club. Her horse, “Edenhope Posh”, was named Champion Overall Intermediate Horse. The NSW Senior Women, captained by Sandra Weston and including Erin Nisbet of the Jugiong Club, dispatched Western Australia in a 32 to 22 victory. Sandra’s daughter, Breanna Trembarth, rode for the NSW Junior Girls in their defeat of Queensland 26-20. Ben Manwaring of Jugiong rode in the NSW Senior Mixed team which triumphed over Victoria in a 29-11 drubbing. Bill Fitzgerald of the Jugiong Club and Chris Bunny, captain of the Harden Polocrosse Club, teamed up to defeat Queensland 24 to 18. Sam also returned home with the Champion Overall ASH title for his horse, “Lealukas Glide”. NSW also took out the Mixed Masters and Junior Boys’ categories. The Harden Polocrosse Carnival will be held on July 2nd & 3rd, with the Jugiong Carnival to follow on July 16th & 17th.
