Essential Energy will begin a powerline upgrade in Harden this month to strengthen power supply reliability for local households and businesses.

Regional Manager Southern, Steven Ilitch, said local crews would be working on the high and low voltage electricity network in Derby and North streets over the coming months.

“Crews will replace more than 400 metres of high voltage with higher capacity aluminium cable, upgrade a number of power poles and cross-arms and replace 600 metres of low voltage powerline with aerial bundled cable – insulated, intertwined aluminium wire which is stronger and more resistant to the elements,” Steven said.

To allow crews to work safely on the network, a number of localised planned power outages will be necessary during March and April. Affected businesses and residents will be notified in advance.

A number of handy tips are available on the Essential Energy website to help customers prepare for planned power outages. To find out more, visit: www.essentialenergy.com.au/outages

Essential Energy advises that traffic control will be in place to implement changes to vehicle and pedestrian traffic arrangements as necessary at various times throughout the duration of the project.

“Crews will be working in Derby Street near the Murrumburrah Primary School next week so we ask motorists to be aware of changes to local traffic conditions and exercise caution,” Steven said.

The upgrade is expected to be completed by late April 2016.
