The final regular round of the 2015/2016 Touch Football season took place last Thursday, with the finals set to begin this week.
The game between Average Joe’s and Globo Gym…I mean DPM Fitness… demonstrated that pre-work put drinks and protein powders are not necessarily a guarantee of success. Kerrie Quinn was the only one to plant the ball down over the line for DPM Fitness, as the game was all Average Joe’s way. Patrick Smith scored both first and twice, with a double to Austin Grace as well. Chris O’Connor contributed a try to finish the game 11 points 2.
The flow was too great for the Harden Pharmacy Red Devils to plug against Got the Runs, despite Aaron Seaman and Phoebe Lenehan trying to stick the pitchfork in with their two tries. Dan Cowden sprayed the Red Devils with his four tries, and was ably assisted in the brown-out of their opposition with two tries to Jeffrey Brown, and a try each to Harry Forsyth and Jessie Abnett. Scores finished at 17 points to 8.
The Retro Café easily dispatched Thompson’s Rural 15 points to 2, with the latter only able to score one try through the efforts of Maddie Emms. Matthew Stadtmiller was the intercept queen for the Retro Cafe, and his soft hands and limp wrists put a ball directly onto the chest of Matthew Schofield, who pierced a gap for a try. Schofield scored two more tries for the Retro Café, with a double going to Scott Chesworth, one try to Jasmin Chesworth and another to Beau Abnett.
The Ian Mergard and Matt Peisley show was on once again for Fit’n Well against Robert Scott Electrical, in a close thriller against the young and fast Robert Scott Electrical. Caleb Madden and Robert Scott scored a double each, with Ryan Daley scoring once for the young electricians. Matt Peisley crossed once for Fit’n Well, but it was the four tries by Ian Mergard which clinched the game, as he was also the first try scorer as well. The game finished 11 points to 10 to Fit’n Well.
It was a close match up between Hard Rock Gym 2 and the Jugiong Jackasses, with the Gary Doohan and James Collins putting on the tries for the former. Loui Polimeni snared a double for Jugiong, with Kelvin H. accompanying him on the scoresheet. The game finished 6 points to 5 to the Jackasses.
One can get booked for drink driving whilst riding a horse, but when the drunken human takes on the sober equine, the results were never going to be pretty. Bron Pollock’s two tries and Dane Howard’s single contribution were all the Binalong Boozers could do to avoid the charge of the Twin Town Light Horsemen, who ran in 17 points to 6. Will Manwaring, Matthew Murray and Jacob West ran in doubles, whilst Riley Manwaring and Jock Ward formed the second wave with their tries.
ABC Freighters obliterated Johnno’s Painting as if they were a kangaroo hit by a Kenworth at 130km/h on the Hume Highway. The impact was so devastating that even the names of Johnno’s Painting’s players were blown off the scoresheet. Sam Woods opened the account with two tries, followed by Max O’Connor, Connor Woods, Blake Maxworthy and Cara Phillis to leave Johnno’s Painting splattered with a 13 points to nil score-line.
The Electric Septics managed to give the Young Guns a good shocking through the two-pronged attack of Nathan Schofield and Paul Shea, who both bagged two tries each. They were ably assisted by try-scorers Clinton Stevens and Brodie Schofield, with the only resistance coming from Jesse Manwaring and Oscar Forsyth with their tries for the Young Guns. It was a painful affair for the Young Guns, going down to the Electric Septics 12 points to 5.
A troika of tries from Charlie Butt was not enough to stave off defeat for the Romani Wranglers, who went down to Twomey’s Wii Not Fit 14 points to 11. Rob Bunt scored first for Romani’s, with Ben Coster following him over the tryline. But a triple to Troy Dumbrell, a double to Keith Smith and tries to Chloe Wade and Casey Smith dispatched the Wranglers, who have become renowned for their entertaining playing style throughout the season.
Jackson’s Bakery were dispatched by Delta 7 points to 4, with Andrew Jones’ two tries for Delta made all the more significant by him sustaining a dislocated shoulder. Jess Doolan began Delta’s campaign, however, with her first try of the match, whilst Jamie Cantrill crossed twice for Jackson’s only points of the game.
Two tries each to Johnno Davis and Lane Gaudie were enough to ensure victory against the Garangula Grizzlies, who could only scratch up three tries in response courtesy of Zarlie Quinn, John Quinn and Corey Pearsall. Both teams will take to the paddock again next week for the finals.
The Beals managed to keep the points scoring in the family for Smashing Cherries’ game against Kennett Rural, with John Beal running in three tries and Jack Beal scoring one. Charlie Hufton and Jonny Manchester ran in a try each for Kennett in response, but it was not enough to prevent a 9 points to 4 defeat.
The Originals managed to take the ‘bang’ out of the Binalong Bangers, running in five tries to the Bangers’ three. Luke Oldfield scored twice for Binalong, and was accompanied by J. Best on the scoreboard. Toby Haydon scored twice for The Originals, as did Ben Logue, with Tim McDougal supplying the other try for The Originals to win the game 11 points to 6.
Three tries to Mellissa Ings and two to her daughter Hunter for Fit’n Well has one wondering what exactly is being mixed into the food at particular household. Colleen Hawly and Jess Sargent scored a try each for Fit’n Well in an attempt to catch up with the Ings duo, but the pair were too fired up. Aside from the three tries to Bailey from GTH Hornets, the Ings girls crushed all resistance, making sure that the Hornets were never to take the field again for the remainder of the season. The scores finished 14 points to 7.
The finals will begin this Thursday with tries only worth one point each.
