web light h goodThe Light Horse Hotel has emerged to become a true Murrumburrah icon, and it has just begun a new and exciting chapter under the management of Eric, Cheryl and Rob Francis. This is good news for patrons who enjoy a cool beverage any day of the week, as they will now be able to get home safely with the courtesy bus running every day.

The family from Marulan have taken on a ten-year lease of the pub from owners Ashley Hall and Bob Manwaring, which is a clear intent of their commitment to both the pub and the town.

“It’s a big commitment,” said Cheryl, who previously worked in age care for 15 years. “If you are going to put your heart and soul into it, you have to make it long-term.”

Cheryl, her husband Eric and their son Rob are eager put some of their own character into the Light Horse Hotel. If Cheryl’s grandfather is anything to go by, it should be a fun and enjoyable place to be.

Cheryl’s grandfather Michael Leslie McGrath from Bega enlisted in the 2nd Light Horse Regiment in September 1915, and was one of four sons who all served in the Light Horse and returned from the Great War, a truly remarkable feat in its own right. In May 1918, records indicate that he was docked a day’s pay for using four hand grenades ‘for bombing fish’.

“My grandmother said he was very naughty, but I didn’t believe the story until we saw it on his records,” said Cheryl.
The extraordinary story of her grandfather and great-uncles furthers the family’s connection to the aptly-named hotel, located in the very town that spawned the Light Horse itself.

The family plan to have live music on the second Sunday of each month, with a duo from Goulburn to inaugurate what will hopefully become a new tradition on March 13, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on the hotel’s verandah. Anyone who is interested in playing, especially those with a softer or more acoustic repertoire, should contact the Light Horse Hotel.

“We are also thinking of having trivia nights and karaoke, if the interest is there,” said Eric.

Again, the Light Horse Hotel’s courtesy bus will be running seven days per week. For more information, contact the Light Horse Hotel on 63 862 210 or http://www.lighthorsehotel.com.au.
