Kate Hufton and her mum Liz Prater will be opening the famous Sir George Hotel in Jugiong this Spring, with the mother and daughter team hard at work over recent days. Kate said “We bought it on a bit of a whim after contacting the agent, we found ourselves with the pub, we are looking forward to changing a few things and opening near springtime.”
The pub will be providing traditional food with a wow factor and will undergo a complete renovation. “We will be opening a bakery as well and we hope that it will add to the already social feel in Jugiong.”Kate said.
Work commenced over recent days with some old trees removed from the site and a construction fence to go up soon.
The pub was built in 1845 and has stayed in the same family since. Until purchased by Kate and her mum. It went from the Sheahans to the Holms when George Holm’s grandmother who was a Sheehan took it on decades ago.
The Hume Highway stopped going through Jugiong nearly 20 years ago but the new double lane highway which bypasses the town, will now provide many travellers with the ability to stop off and experience the Jugiong township and the hospitality provided by the locals.

“It will be a really great place for people to hold birthdays and family gatherings” said Kate. “I have always been interested in music and food the pub will be a way to expand on those interests.”
Kate’s husband Charlie Hufton is looking forward to the pub opening and it will no doubt become a hub for the polocrosse tournaments held in Jugiong. The small town has some of the finest polocrosse talent in the state.
