Chris Johnson scores an excellent try and in the process also rolls over and flips himself to his feet.
A storm threatened to derail Thursday night’s touch football matches, but the short and sharp event meant that play could go on, albeit in muggy conditions.
The Twin Town Light Horsemen trumped Average Joe’s in a 20 points to 5 victory, spurred on by three tries to Nathan McCarthy and two tries each to Jayke Hogan and Jock Ward. Austin Grace crossed first for Average Joe’s, with Patrick Smith providing the only other try for Average Joe’s average score line. J. Barker, Luke Brown and J. West crossed for one each to allow the Light Horsemen to trample Average Joe’s with very little regard indeed.
Johnno’s Painting had some players on paper this time, which explained why they easily dispatched Got the Runs. Beau Stewart’s three tries and Chris Johnson’s two were the Imodium against Got the Runs, who could only manage two tries courtesy of Tara McGrath-West and Jessie Abnett. Daniel Clark and D Prosser scored a try each to clear themselves of ‘The Runs 14 points to 5.
A wall of wool was put up by Demondrille Merinos, who managed to keep the Young Guns scoreless in their match up. The more senior Patrick Davis crossed first for Demondrille, followed by Hamish Minehan. Demondrille won the game 5 points to 0.
It was the battle of the Charlies in the game between Kennett Rural and the Romani Wranglers, with Charlie Hufton and Charlie Butt scoring three tries apiece for their respective teams. John Manchester assisted the Kennett cause with his two tries, whilst father and daughter Andrew & Meg Kennett scored the remaining tries for Kennett Rural. Their efforts were enough against the Wranglers, who could only manage one more try through Rob Bunt. The loss to Kennett Rural ended a white-hot run of form on the part of the Romani Wranglers.
Ryan Daley and Chris Whybrow proved to be destructive against their much younger opposition in the GTH Hornets, leading Robert Scott Electrical to victory with their two tries each. Not to be outdone, Junior League President Kai Steele manage to sneak over the line, finishing the game 11 points to 0 in Robert Scott Electrical’s favour.
If a B-Double travelling at 100 kilometres per hour hits a bear, what do you think the result would be? One would probably not have said a 13 point win to ABC Freighters over the Garangula Grizzlies, but that is what happened, apparently. Barry Woods acted as the bull bar, striking first, followed by the rest of truck with two tries each to Max O’Connor and Justin Stewart, as well as one to Gus Woods. John Quinn caused a bit of damage to the windscreen with one try for the Garangula Grizzlies, but the team landed on the asphalt pretty hard in a 10 points to 2 drubbing.
The Originals were just a battered sab to the Retro Café, who stuck them in the deep fryer and cooked them beautifully in the Retro Café’s 13 points to 0 victory. Aiden Hill and Matthew Schofield bagged a double each, with Beau Abnett and Darren Prosser’s tries providing the chicken salt for a delectable dish.
Ian Mergard and Lui Polimeni provided two tries each for their respective teams in Fit ‘n Well and the Jugiong Jackasses, and were the lone try scorers for the match. Luckily for Fit ‘n Well, Ian Mergard crossed first, with the three-point try proving critical in their 5 points to 4 victory over Jugiong.
It was hard on between Hard ‘n Fit and Hard Rock Gym 2, with the former proving harder in its 14 points to 9 victory over the latter. David Ings and Jon McGrath proved that age was no barrier, crossing thrice and twice respectively for Hard ‘n Fit. Resistance was provided by Johno Nicholls and James Collins with two tries each, but it was not enough with Hunter Ings and Jess Sargent crossing over for their own tries for Hard ‘n Fit.
Bakers and Boozers usually meet in the wee hours of a Saturday or Sunday morning after the pubs and clubs have all closed, but this time, Jacksons Bakery and Hotel Binalong Boozers met on the touch field. Jacob Prosser crossed both first and twice for Jacksons, providing the only points for the team, with the Boozers responding with two tries to Dylan Arabin. But B. Pollack snuck off with an extra pork pie to help the Boozers win the game 6 points to 5.
There wasn’t much defence going on in the game between DPM Fitness and Delta, with a total of 25 points being scored in the match as a whole. Two tries each were scored by Dean McGrath and Chris Fredericks for DPM, as well as Andrew Jones and Billy Bolger for Delta. Lucy Chesworth and Blaine Whybrow crossed over for a try each for DPM, as did Eliza Butt and Jordan Menz for Delta. But Chris Fredericks’ first try of the match was the clincher for DPM, finishing the game 13 points to 12 in DPM Fitness’ favour.
The Bindon Bruisers certainly bent the pitchforks of the Harden Pharmacy Red Devils in a 21 points to 8 thumping. Lane and Greg scored 3 tries each for the Bruisers, with two more tries to Ben D and one each to Ellyssa D and Bradley D. Andy Hufton managed to sneak in two tries to spur a fight back for the Devils, with Luke Stevenson and Graham Martin-Dye joining him on the scoreboard for one each. In the end, it wasn’t enough to stop the Bruisers.
Just one point separated Smashing Cherries and the Carrington Crusaders, in a result that was quite common for this round of the competition. Phil Robinson, John Parker and R Parker scored the tries for Smashing Cherries, with the Crusaders tries being scored by Tom Grace with a double and Michael West with one. Scoring first in the match, Tom Grace’s first try made all the difference in a 7 point to 6 victory for the Crusaders.
The Binalong Bangers blocked up the Electric Septics with a 10 points to 5 victory. Lucy Spackman and Nathan Schofield tried in vain to unclog the Septic’s chances, but it was too big a task for them with the Bangers piling on seven tries. M. Giles put on three, followed in the scoring by R. Woodhead and J. Bannister with one each.
