12 year old Thomas Carey of Yass must have had an outboard motor behind him at The Harden Murrumburrah and District War Memorial Swimming Pool tonight. The first leg of the 4 leg series of the Shine Shield saw Carey swim an amazing 29.84 seconds in the 50 metre freestyle, breaking the previous record by 1.56 seconds. Set in 1995 by H Crisp also of Yass the 21 year old record has been obliterated by the 12 year old who only finished primary school last year.

Thomas said ” I’m pretty happy with the swim it’s a new Personal Best for me.” Thomas will attend Daramalan College in Canberra where he will start year 7 this year,  he hopes to train hard and continue his swimming.

Congratulations Thomas!
