It appears that the NSW State Government will merge the Boorowa, Harden and Young Shire Councils to form a Hilltops Council, dismissing the Harden-Cootamundra proposal which had the backing of 90% of residents.

The merger is depicted on a map (see below) tweeted by the Mayor of Dubbo, although no official word has been received. A press release is expected sometime this afternoon.

For Cootamundra residents, Gundagai looks to become the new partner for amalgamation, whilst Tumut and Tumbarumba are forced together, despite the latter being found to be viable as a Rural Council.

More information to follow as it comes to hand.

Although hard to read, Harden shire has been highlighted in dark blue along with Young and Boorowa.
