NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Local Government Paul Toole are currently informing Councils around the state of their fate via a web hook-up.

Harden Shire Council will know this morning whether a merger with Cootamundra has been approved, or whether the state government has elected to take a more forceful approach to Council amalgamations.

Over the past 24 hours, reports have emerged that most Councils in Sydney will be forced to merge, and that a new Local Government Act is being planned that would allow for the appointment of a financial controller by the Minister for Local Government for Councils deemed in high risk of financial failure.
