Hilly lines up a beautiful pass for The Retro Cafe last night!.

For once, heat and humidity didn’t play a part in Thursday night’s touch football games, making it a rather enjoyable evening without having to worry about heat stroke, dehydration and even death like we had to the week before.

Jess Doolan drew first blood for Delta against the Garangula Grizzlies, with her father Simon following suit with a try of his own. Lankiness would seem to be the key to success for Delta, with Jordan Menz scoring after a sprint through a gap up the left hand side of the field. But that notion was shattered with Jason Pollard, the perennial dummy-half, scoring a try of his own. Zoe Quinn, Jack Fuller, and Georgia Murray did the best to prevent a Delta victory with their own tries, but the Grizzlies went down to Delta 9 – 6.

The nippiness of the Demondrille Merino Stud saw them beat the Harden Pharmacy Red Devils by one point in 6 – 5 victory. Matty Minehan and Terry Howe proved they could keep up with their much younger teammates by posting tries of their own, despite Amy Green crossing first for the Devils. Andy Hufton also scored for the Devils, channelling his old playing days at Roberts Park when the contact was much more than just a light touch. But Henry Grace snuck in a try for Demondrille, and the third try for them gave the team the one point advantage needed to snatch victory.

The lair and flair of The Originals proved too much for the GTH Hornets, with Ben Logue posting a trio of tries for the former. The Hornets fought admirably with a double from Bailey Pennell and a try from Jacob Frichot, but with Kyle Martin scoring first and following up with a second, and Jordan Douglass, H. Martin and A. Ramsay posting their own, The Originals were just too strong. The Originals won 17-6.

Red makes cars go faster, and it also worked for the Retro Café. The Retro outran Hard Rock Gym 1, 11 points to 2, with Aiden Hill, Clementine Flanery and Scott Chesworth scoring a try apiece. Hard Rock Gym did score one of their own, but Matt Schofield’s length of the field try in the dying minutes of the game saw him not only clinch his second, but also put the result of the game beyond any doubt.

The Binalong Local Derby took place between the Hotel Binalong Boozers and the Binalong Bangers, with the Bangers banging the paralytic Boozers 7 points to 4. Luke Oldfield crossed the line for the Bangers both first and twice, with Max Giles posting another try for the side. The Boozers didn’t pass out completely, as both Tom Stadtmiller and Dylan Arabin scored to show the opposition they were in the game.

A very close game between the Bindon Bruisers and Kennett Rural took place, with the all-important three point first try proving to be the difference, with two tries scored apiece. Johno Davis and Alyssa Davis both crossed for the Bruisers, which was matched by Andrew Kennett and Jorge Daley. Luckily for Kennetts, Jorge’s try was the first in the match, clinching them a 5 points to 4 victory.

A one sided game took place between Robert Scott Electrical and Thompson’s Rural, with Ryan Daley posting the only try for Robert Scott’s team. Thompsons shocked Robert Scott Electrical, posting five tries. Hannah Phillis bagged a double, as did her little brother Oscar, whose mother would prefer he continue to pursue his talents on the football field instead of in the Rodeo ring. J. Ryan and E. Doohan scored a try each of their own to defeat Robert Scott Electrical 11 points to 2.

The Young Guns used their speed and fire power to defeat Hard’n Fit 12 points to 9. Ben Luke crossed three times for Hard’n Fit, giving the team some hope, with Hunter Ings scoring one of his own. But Jesse Manwaring’s three tries, along with those of Lochie Hill, Oscar Forsyth and Will Goode, double-tapped Hard’n Fit and ensured they wouldn’t be getting back up.

Average Joes caused a diarrhoea of points that flowed onto the scoresheet, in a messy affair that the Electric Septics couldn’t contain. Max Spackman the only try scorer for them for the Electric Septics in what was a heavily one-sided affair. Austin Grace crossed the line six times, J. Kneller crossed twice and Georgia Smith scored one of her own. Points also came to Samantha Cross and Grace Smith, who both scored in the right-hand corner. Patrick Smith continued the family points scoring tradition by scoring as well, and his Cherry Pickers teammate, Chris O’Connor, joined in for a try as well. A 27 to 2 thrashing by the Average Joes.

Hard Rock Gym 2 clinched its second one point win in a row by pipping Fit’n’Well 9 points to 8. Joie Whybrow crossed first for Hard Rock Gym 2, giving them a one point advantage that would prove a game winner. Ian Mergard proved to be destructive for the Gym team, scoring three times through sheer speed and agility. Mergard’s efforts were supported by Jen McKay with a try of her own, but Matt Peisley’s ball handling skills were posed a significant threat close to the line. Jack Innes crossed the line as well, as did Leanne Byrne, who was masterful in marshalling and organising her teammates in tandem with Brian Innes. Another try for the Gym resulted in a 9 points to 8 win for Hard Rock 2.

Twomeys Wii Not Fit caused the Jugiong Jackasses to see pink, who are lucky to have a wine cellar with which to drown their sorrows. Adam Wade scored twice for the team, with his daughter Abbey scoring one of her own. M. Smith, T. Drumbell and Michelle Howe joined in on the action, contributing to a bloodbath that Louis Polimeni and K. Hillier couldn’t stop with their two tries. Annie Brooker proved to be a handful challenging the line, but it was not enough for Jugiong, who went down 13 points to 4.

The diarrhoea reference made earlier is also applicable to this game, with Got The Runs flogging the Romani Ranglers 23 to 6. Staying within the playing field proved difficult for Romani, and Zoe Woods was lucky not to have been snapped running over the side-line due to the poor dexterity of a certain Twin Town Times photographer. Ben Coster scored a double and Charlie crossed as well for the Grizzlies, but the game was a bit of a Brown-out. Jeff Brown crossed twice, and his brother Martin got one of his own as well. Harry Forsyth got a double, with Dan Cowden, Marty Smith, Tom Foster and Rhys Butt scoring one apiece. The ladies were not to be outdone in the side either, with Deb of the Year Emily Banks and Tara McGrath-West crossing for one each.

Players are encouraged to fill out the score sheets as best they can. The Twelfth Man excerpt was narrowly avoided this time, but I have a feeling that Matt Stadtmiller may have something worse in mind. I am subjected to the pan flutes from ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ here at the office, amongst many other horrors, so I shudder to think about what he has install for you lot.
