Home-grown bowling talent Billy Bolger is setting the pitch alight after taking a phenomenal 5/31 on Sunday playing for the Yass District Cricket Association representative side against Cootamundra. The bowling equivalent of scoring a century, his 5/31 over ten overs for Yass in the McDonald’s Country Plate competition makes him one of the premier bowlers in the district. His performance was a major highlight in a match that resulted in Yass being all out for 75 runs after bowling out Cootamundra for 161 at Albert Park.
He also played for the Harden Hornets A-Grade side the day before, meaning that his weekends are dominated by cricket. The match against Cootamundra was Billy’s first game for Yass in the 2015/2016 season, with rain washing out the first round of the Stribley Shield against Wagga at Victoria Park. He also played for the side last season. Billy is the son of David and Nikki Bolger, and attended Trinity Primary Catholic School before completing his secondary education at St Ignatius College, Riverview. He is currently half way through his Bachelor of Education in Primary School Teaching, and has been balancing his studies with travelling back to Harden and Yass for cricket.
“I have my last exam on Friday,” said Billy. “So it will be a lot easier to play over the summer holidays.” After his exam, he will be returning to help out on the family farm. Unfortunately, the poor lad will be just as busy as he was before, with the harvest set to begin. Billy will star for the Harden Hornets against the Yass Golf Club at Victoria Park in Yass this Saturday, and play for Yass against Wagga in the second round of the Stribley Shield at Victoria Park on December 6.
