Nick Tooth pictured doing what he loved.

The Gundalong Polo field will play host to some fine rugby union in the form of a tens tournament on Saturday October 10. Former Quirindi Lions player Nick Tooth will be remembered on the day after the 25 year old passed away from a head knock in April in Northern New South Wales. Well known former Harden Red Devil Gus Graham is hosting the event on his property and hopes that plenty of money can be raised to go towards research into sport related brain injuries. Some of the proceeds will go to the Ian Tucker Foundation. Ian was an Australian player who like Nick passed away after a head injury caused during a match in England playing for Oxford University in 1996.

Gus said “We have over 1,100 likes on our facebook page, the support and interest has been overwhelming. We have had some local businesses as well as the rugby community come on board to support the day. The winning team of the tournament will receive an ‘Enforcer’ scrum machine donated by Matty Corkill of Boorowa valued at $7,000. We also have plenty of auction items up for grabs including a stud bull from Milwillah and plenty of apparell from the Brumbies, Waratahs and the Wallabies. We also have a beach house holiday up for grabs and Metalcorp have donated the steel for the goal posts. 2 fields will be in operation to cater for all the sides. We now have a waiting list due to the interest. Sides will play 2, 5 minute halves with a 2 minute half time. Sides will be converging on the manicured polo field from Easts, Quirindi, Dubbo, Hay, Wagga, Coota, the Southern highland and a side from Nick’s former school in the Shore Old Boys.

Gus said “Entry is only $10 and we will be holding a dinner on Saturday night at a cost of $50 a head with a live band performing. Spectators are more than welcome to attend with a full bbq and bar in operation throughout the day. Gundalong Polo field is situated 2 kilometres from the Galong Cross roads.
